Great leaders combine leadership skills with management skills. They surround themselves with great people and then serve them by creating an environment where they can succeed. The reward is a successful company. Be “tight” about what you want to achieve, while providing room and support for the people working on those goals. When things are not working out, be honest with the other person. Bad news needs to travel fast and be received positively by leaders. When the problem comes down to an individual, try to work constructively, such as a different or a more junior role. These conversations should not come as a surprise to the other person. If the decision is to separate, both parties should feel it is the right thing to do.
