People don’t wash rental cars because they don’t own them. When we own something we take care of it. People in an organization will only do their best when they feel like they own it._x000D_ _x000D_ There are two commitments needed to create the feeling that we’re all in this together and I feel like I’m in charge of my life. First, foster collaboration by building trust and facilitating relationships; and second, strengthen others by increasing their self determination and developing their confidence. _x000D_ _x000D_ When the goal is to improve, the winning bet is on cooperation every time. No leader ever got anything extraordinary done by him or herself. It is equally important that individuals feel personally powerful. The best predictor of individual success is relevant previous experience plus a high level of emotional intelligence. And the best predictor of emotional intelligence is whether employees feel they are treated with dignity and respect.
